Neisseriaceae (Neis·se·ri·a·ceae) (ni-se″re-a´se-e) a family of gram-negative, aerobic cocci and rod-shaped bacteria of the order Neisseriales, occurring singly or in pairs, short chains, or masses. The organisms are parasitic or saprophytic, and some produce pigment. Medically important organisms are included in the genera Chromobacter, Eikenella, Kingella, and Neisseria.
